Focus. This is one skill set that is slowly getting extinct. When was the last time you had a chat with somebody for a certain extent of time without picking up your phone and unnecessarily scrolling thorough it just to check something which didn’t need any checking at that moment?

I’m sure many of you would have experienced more than one such instance. It doesn’t happen most of time because you get bored of what that person is saying or that particular TV show you are watching. Blame it all on you lack of attention span which is getting reduced day by day. Technology is progressing at tremendous speed giving us access to so many things all together and all at once and it is all affordable. Gone are the days when people waited for their one favorite TV show for the whole week and were in the risk of missing it forever if they got late or there was no electricity or the TV broke. Now all the shows of the world are in that little cellphone in your hand, literally at you fingertips! So its easy to get tempted to press that button at your whim and fancy without any forced discipline.

All this is doing is reducing the power of focus. People are unable to focus on a single thing for a long time and this is doing no good to their brain. The brain is losing its skill to give attention to a single job. All the discoveries and inventions in the world have been possible only by deep thinking which is quite impossible these days. When was the last time you sat and thought deeply about something without getting distracted?

It poses a serious thereat to our future generation, the children, since bit by bit their ability to focus is diminishing. They are jumpy and fickle minded. Their brain is getting wired to the YouTube Shorts which are short, mindless and fun! They lack patience and perseverance.

So, what’s the way out? Limiting exposure to cellphones and of course the old, proven and extremely effective way, Meditation. It heals and calms the mind and helps it focus. Its not a fancy term people like to use, its the need of the hour!
