I’m not involved in the politics of my country neither I am a soldier who is protecting the country at its border with his/her life. I never got a chance to be a freedom fighter for my country when it was at war long back. But whenever I see my country’s flag flying at the top of any building or practically anywhere, I feel a tinge of pride. Whenever I hear the national anthem of my country played anywhere, I start humming along with it and my eyes well up. I even pause and stand up whenever possible to give it due respect.
For me, patriotism is a feeling, a sense of devotion where I feel proud of my roots. It gives me a sense of belonging. It might have many flaws of its own, but that holds true for any place. In spite of that I have a special spot in my heart for my country. I just try to do my little part by abiding the laws of my country and following the rules and regulations wherever I go.
People have a tendency to crib about the flaws of the country but one should remember that we are also a part of that country. If we thing something is not working, then we should be the one to work peacefully towards bringing about that change and work towards the betterment of the country.
I grew up hearing stories of people who fought for the freedom of my country whenever it was in trouble. I find their devotion and sacrifices spectacular. They are the real patriotic heroes. The least I can do is being devoted to my country from my heart and mind because Patriotism for me is an emotion.
