My parents were taking care of me and my siblings at my age and every age after that and a couple of years before that also and till now and perhaps in the future too! That was the first thought that came to my mind when I read this prompt, ‘What were your parents doing at your age?’ and that’s the truth from the perspective of their kid. I’m not counting the years before their marriage because that answer is so obvious. They must be going to school, college or just goofing around, crying or singing, in short just living a relaxed life. All the complications start only after humans decide to start a family of their own. Before that they are just a carefree bird.

My father had worked all his life to provide a decent life for us and fulfill all our needs. My mother’s job was to take care of the family and our home. The kids have moved away from home but she is still doing the same through phones and video calls and I’m sure will continue to do so. If you ask other people who know them, they might tell you the other things that they did at my age. But for me it is pretty much what I wrote above because that is what I saw.

When I say this, it doesn’t mean that they sacrificed their life for us and didn’t have any fun for themselves. My father relishes eating a good meal and has a great sense of humor and he knows how to enjoy life as it comes. My mother on the other hand has the soul of an artist. She loves to sing, paint and enjoys the company of good friends. They are simple souls and we are blessed to have them in our lives.
