The day didn’t start off on a good note for him. They again fought on a petty issue. Myra and Sudhanshu both expected each other to make breakfast and neither of them ended up making it. This ticked off the fight and Myra’s mother, who was staying with them for a while, added fire to it. They both left for office without any food.
Well, it was an everyday affair these days. It was difficult to believe that they were once a couple so in love that they had run away from the house and got married when their family opposed their relationship. After marriage life was a bliss and they couldn’t stay without seeing each other for long.
But things took a drastic turn as time passed. Their love slowly turned to extreme bitterness. So much so that they couldn’t see eye to eye with each other on any matter. Something undecipherable went terribly wrong in the life of Sudhanshu and Myra.
Myra was very close to her mother. She came to stay with them in the hope of saving her daughter’s marriage, but things didn’t turn the way it was expected. She didn’t approve of Sudhanshu from day one and unknowingly always took Myra’s side in every fight they had and rubbed salt to the wound.
Their relationship was on the rocks. Sudhanshu was sad and immersed himself in work in the hope of not getting depressed further about his love life.
It was a busy day at the office. Sudhanshu had taken a couple of interviews from the morning but till now he hadn’t got the candidate he was looking for to fill the vacant position. His secretary informed him that there was a very suitable candidate for that position whose bio data matched perfectly but the person was busy at the moment and had said that he would give a call himself in some time. So, they had provided Sudhanshu’s name and phone number to him.
This gave Sudhanshu a break and he relaxed a bit to have a very late breakfast which had gone cold sitting on his work table.
The phone rang in some time. Sudhanshu picked it up.
“Hello”
“Hello… Panditji?”
Do people still talk like this …that too in interviews?
“Uhm yes…. Sudhanshu Pandit here…”
“Namaste… I’m Raj… Rajkumar”
James…. James Bond…
“So, Raj… Let’s get started…”
Sudhanshu moved his breakfast aside and clicked on his desktop to open the resume of the candidate.
“Sure… I have heard a lot about you”
Am I that famous?
“Good to know that…”
True or not, but Sudhanshu sounded pleased.
“Yes… You have solved the problems of so many people…I was really impressed…”
Have I now?
“Hmm ok… so I have to look at your bio data here and my system is taking some time to open it….”
“25th Feb, 1991, 8.30 pm, Bareilly”
“What?”
“My date, time and place of birth… You will need it right?”
“Hmm… Why not… it’s good to know”
Time… not so much…
“So, let’s start by knowing your experience. Can you elaborate on that?”
There was silence on the other side…
“Hello… are you there?
“This question hurts.”
The voice quivered a little.
Really?
“I’m sorry I didn’t understand.” Sudhanshu was confused.
“Its first time”
So, first interview
“Oh no problem there… Everything has a first time…”
“That’s why I’m in dire need of your help…” He sounded desperate.
Maybe he needs this job badly…happens…
“Sure…I will be lenient… Don’t worry… I just want to check if you have what we need…”
“I’m confident… Thought a lot about it… This is what I want”
“I like your confidence! So, let’s start with your background and experiences…”
The man cleared his throat and started.
“I’m the youngest one in my family of five children…my mother pampers me a lot… and my father simply adored me”
Lots of unnecessary information…
“Since I wanted to work in a big city, I told my father…. He has a lot of connections so he got me this job by giving gifts… you know what I mean by ‘gifts’ right?”, he smirked.
Is he serious?
“My father is a landlord who owns many farms…so money is never a problem with me…so this is my background… fully secure one”, he said with pride.
Never wanted to know about this ‘background’…
Sudhanshu restarted his system which had hung up. He desperately wanted to read the resume of this candidate.
“Then I saw her…”
???
“Saw who?”
He sounded impatient.
“Obviously the girl!”
What girl?!
“It was love at first sight for me… When I saw her, so many red roses started blooming around me… violins started playing in the background… colourful balloons were flying…”
Huh… filmy
“But why are you telling me this?”
“I know it sounds funny…nobody would believe it… But it really happened!”
But-why-are-you-telling-me-this?
“My life changed after I saw Meethi…I see her even when I close my eyes… she is part of me now”
“But I have only one problem”
“She doesn’t like me” His voice broke a little.
I’m not surprised.
“See, here I’m asking about work… Why are you telling me these personal details of your life?” Sudhanshu was irritated now.
“Since you can only help me Panditji!… Only you!”
“How can I help you? Rather why should I?”
Sudhanshu would have definitely cut this call if he had not been informed that this candidate’s resume is supposedly the best for the vacant position.
The man was silent for a moment.
“I have heard great reviews about you. You have solved such problems for so many people…Chintu Prasad… Chotu Laal…. Birju Khatri…. Why won’t you help me? What wrong have I done?” He sounded desperate.
Who on earth are these people?
“You have to give me your Vashikaran mantra Panditji…I want to control that girl’s mind… And made her love me too.”
What!!
Sudhanshu’s system was up and he was finally able to open the candidate’s resume.
Manav Agnihotri, Bachelor of Engineering…etc etc
“I will pay you anything you want… If you don’t help me then…. then… I will end my life” The man on the other end was literally crying.
Who is this guy on the phone then?
Sudhanshu was speechless. In a moment, he was transformed from an interviewer to a suicide helpline number…or better still…. some Panditji who is an expert in Vashikaran!
****************************************************************************************
“Wait! Don’t do anything foolish like that.”
Sudhanshu knew he had to handle the situation delicately. He didn’t want to be the reason for a suicide, even though this was a wrong number.
“I’m standing on the railing of a bridge…. the mighty deep Ganga is flowing just below me… I will sacrifice myself to Ganga Maiya if you don’t help me out.” The man warned him.
“Hey Ganga Maiya doesn’t need you man!”
“But I will give myself to her.”
Why do you have to give people things they don’t want!
“Okay, just calm down…Don’t do anything drastic… I… I will help you…”
Did I just say that?!
“I knew it. Panditji is known to be very kind-hearted.” He sounded relaxed.
Tell that to my wife….
“So please give me the Vashikaran mantra Panditji. So that Meethi starts loving me.”
Sudhanshu was thinking hard. He caught sight of the empty glass of milkshake which he had ordered for breakfast.
“You have a cow?”
“What?”
“A pure white cow… The colour of snow”
“I can find one…”
“You know cooking?”
“Yes, that I know very well… I can make roti, sabzi, paratha, pulao and…”
“Laddoo…motichoor laddoo”
Sudhanshu interrupted him looking at the photo of a big plate of laddoos advertised on the leaflet of a nearby sweet stall someone dropped at his office.
“Make motichoor laddoos…. from pure ghee extracted…. from the milk of a white cow.”
The man was silent.
“Can’t you do that?”
“I can try…” he sounded doubtful initially.
“No… I will …I will do that…anything for my Meethi!”, he tried to build his confidence himself.
Deal with it, great cook. You might end up cooking breakfast for your Meethi all life!
“What about the Vashikaran mantra Panditji?”
“I’m not done yet.”
“Sorry sorry… carry on.”
“Make the laddoos and offer it to the nearest …”
His eye caught the desktop wallpaper of Ganesh.
“Ganesh temple”
“There is one I know nearby!” the man sounded excited.
Save that excitement…
“Offer the laddoos as prasad to Lord Ganesh and chant his 108 names and remember how much you desire Meethi each time”
“But the mantra…”
“I’ll chant the mantra from my end as I’m not sure if you can pronounce the difficult mantra correctly. Anyways, now people are copying everything. I also need to be in business.”
“But I have heard the Vashikaran process is quite different from this and…”
“You are the Vashikaran Pandit or me?”, Sudhanshu snapped.
“Of course, you Panditji…”, the man was apologetic.
“According to what I’m seeing in your kundali, this will only work for you”, Sudhanshu said, making a sound by crumbling a few papers on his desk.
“Jo hukum Panditji”
Dramebaaz (one who does drama all time) ….
‘“Then offer the prasad to your …….”
“Not at all possible…”, the man cut him short.
There were sounds of sobbing from the other end.
What the heck!
“Meethi doesn’t want to see even my face Panditji…she won’t accept prasad from me”, the man started wailing loudly.
Can’t blame her…
“Will you let me complete my sentence for once?”, Sudhanshu said in anger.
“Sorry sorry…please continue…”, the man said, controlling his sobs.
What should I say now!
His phone vibrated and there was a message from Myra’s mother.
“Bring vegetables while coming back from the office. Myra is busy”
Jo hukum sasuma!
“You don’t have to give the prasad to Sweetie..you..”
“Meethi!… It’s Meethi…” interruption again.
Sweetie Meethi… who cares… Same meaning right!
“Whatever…”
“You have to give the prasad to her mother”
Sasuma rules!
“Her mother? Don’t mind Panditji…but I want Meethi to fall in love with me…not her mother!”
“Innocent being…you have no idea how the world works… do you?”, Sudhanshu smirked.
Ha ha…I have merged to the role of a pandit …isn’t it?
“Impress the mother and the girl will follow suit”
The man was silent for some time as if absorbing the information, he just received.
Sudhanshu kept his fingers crossed. He didn’t have any more time to invest in this out of the blue ‘Vashikaran pandit’ business.
“Wow…such profound knowledge… a common man can’t think like this”
“You are great Panditji…that’s why you are so famous”
Success finally!
“So, go Raj… Raj Kumar…may God be with you”
“Shall I transfer your Guru Dakshina online?”
“No need for it right now…we will see later”
Your Panditji is generous today!
“You are such a selfless and remarkable man! I’m thrilled to get an opportunity to talk to you”
“Pranam Panditji”
Sudhanshu hung up the phone and took a deep breath.
Phew!!
He took a mental note to inform police about this incident. But later that day he got so busy that it completely slipped out of his mind.
********************************************************
Today it was Valentine’s day. It used to be a day of celebration for Sudhanshu and Myra from the time they met each other. But this year was different. It would have felt better to think that they had forgotten all about it. But the truth was that they hadn’t. They were simply in no mood to wish each other.
Sudhanshu’s day followed the same pattern. Waking up in the morning followed by a fight complete with his mother in law’s unnecessary intervention and then rushing to office doing his regular mundane work.
He ordered aloo paratha and a banana milkshake online and sat working at his desktop. His phone rang. He picked it up in between typing.
“Hello”
“Panditji…charan sparsh (I touch your feet)!”
“Sorry what?” Sudhanshu couldn’t catch what the man on the other side spoke.
“It’s me…Raj…Raj Kumar”
Again!
“See Raj… I am busy now…will talk to you later”, Sudhanshu wanted to avoid further talks in the fear of getting trapped again.
He was about to cut the call when the man spoke again.
“Wait Panditji…don’t hang up or I will keep on calling again and again”
Sudhanshu knew that the possibility of that happening was high having experienced the stubborn nature of the man. So, he decided better to talk to him fast and be done with it.
“Ok … be quick”
There was a one second silence and then he could hear the familiar sobs again.
Again! This can’t be true…I am trapped again!
Sudhanshu waited with knitted eyebrows till his sobs died out.
“Panditji…. Don’t worry… There are tears of happiness which I’m unable to stop…. I have a very good news for you this Valentine’s Day. Meethi will soon become Meethi Raj Kumar!”, he shouted on the phone out of excitement.
“@#$%!”
“Yes, you heard it right Panditji”
“Your mantra worked like magic! A miracle has happened. I did exactly as you had told. Her mother hesitated at first but since it was prasad so she couldn’t refuse.”
“She liked the laddoos very much. Moreover, she liked the fact that I was thoughtful enough to respect her since I liked her daughter. She put on some good words about me to her husband, Meethi’s father too.”
“You might have known my nature by now. People who start knowing me they start liking me too much in no time”
I have a fair idea…
“Then what happened?”, Sudhanshu was curious now.
“This in turn impressed Meethi a lot. She started seeing me in a new light. We started meeting each other, that too with the blessings of her parents.”
“But they have warned…not much of seeing business anymore…will meet directly in the mandap…. our marriage date got fixed today!”
“The first person I wanted to give this good news was you Panditji”
“Thank you so much for your help”
“Your unique Vashikaran process worked like a charm!”
Sudhanshu was dumbstruck.
It worked?!
“You are like a God to lovestruck people like me. I will tell all my friends about you. May your reputation reach far and wide. You are a true Love guru”
The man went on praising his Panditji for a while.
Huh…what an irony…Love guru’s own love life is screwed.
“Now tell me your Guru dakshina Panditji”
Sudhanshu was surprised beyond belief. His made-up tricks had actually worked. He couldn’t think for a while.
“Panditji you there?”
“Eh yes… I am here”
“You were my 100th client Raj…Raj Kumar…so no Guru Dakshina from you”
“I’m honoured Panditji!”
“Have a good life with your Meethi…”
“Thank you Panditji…all because of your blessings”
Sudhanshu hung up the phone. It was difficult for him to believe what he heard.
He opened his specs and closed his eyes as if deep in thought. He kept sitting like that for a long while.
When he got up, he had no idea how much time had passed.
Eventually, he picked up his phone, searched for a particular number and dialled.
“Hello”, came a voice from that side.
“Hello…is this Gaumata Khatal (cow shed)?”
“Yes”
“By any chance do you own a pure white cow… the colour of snow?”
